Petkoff and Cameron Departing from Cyclones

September 19, 2006 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) - Twin City Cyclones News Release

The Pee Dee Cyclones Professional Ice Hockey team is very disappointed in former Cyclones' forward Joel Petkoff for choosing not to honor the agreement he made with the Cyclones back in the Spring of 2006 and after reconfirming his commitment in early June 2006. The Cyclones recently learned that Petkoff has decided to play in England for the upcoming season. "We find it very disappointing that Joel does not want to honor his verbal and written agreement," remarked Head Coach/General Manager of the Pee Dee Cyclones, Mark Richards.

"Dealing with European teams is difficult because a few of the teams have questionable business ethics. They do not inquire if a player has signed somewhere else because they really don't care," stated Bob Kerzner, majority owner of the Cyclones.

Additionally, defenseman Jeff Cameron has chosen not to honor his agreement and has decided to play in Europe for the 2006-07 season. "We were aware that Cameron had the reputation of not being reliable, but we were willing to give him a chance. We are also reviewing our contracts with an attorney to try and make sure that we are protected as much as possible in the future," commented Richards.

Coach Richards is confident that he will be able to find high-caliber replacements for both Petkoff and Cameron; "We are looking forward to a successful season, despite losing both players."
