Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo native Cal Petersen made 34 saves Wednesday to give the Black Hawks a 4-2 road win while visiting the Sioux City Musketeers.

The 17-year-old who is a regular for the Chicago Young Americans midget team appeared off the Hawks' affiliate list. Petersen weathered a busy first period with one goal allowed as Sioux City outshot the visitors 14-11. He made ten more saves in the second and eleven in the third.

The Black Hawks led for most of the first frame after a goal 3:48 into the game. Jamie Hill sent Tony Cameranesi to the side of the net for the score; the puck crossed the line just before the net was dislodged by a collision between goaltender Matt Skoff and one of his defensemen. Sioux City tied the contest at 17:37 as David Goodwin flipped in a rebound from a sharp angle.

Waterloo nosed back ahead at 5:23 of the second as Taylor Cammarata fired a deflected shot off the end glass. It caromed back to Ryan Papa just off the left post, and his sharp-angled chance surprised Skoff and found the net.

Mark Naclerio provided a key goal 12:38 into the third. A takeaway in the neutral zone allowed him to cross the Sioux City blue line and fire the puck over Skoff's glove hand. The Muskies got the marker back 1:22 later with Brad Robbins recording a power play goal. However, Jamie Hill helped make Naclerio's tally stand up as the winner, scoring into an empty net with 17 seconds remaining.

The Hawks play their next three games at Young Arena, beginning with a New Years' Eve contest against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Tickets for the 7:05PM matchup are available from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling (319) 291-7680. Next weekend, the Hawks are home for contests against the Indiana Ice and Dubuque Fighting Saints on Friday and Saturday respectively.
