Arizona Sundogs News Release
Prescott Valley, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs rookie forward Adam Perry recorded four points (3g-1a) to lead his team to a 4-2 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage at Tim's Toyota Center. The game was the first of a three-game set this week between the clubs on Arizona's home ice. They resume the series on Friday and Saturday.
Perry scored his first goal of the evening at 3:12 of the opening period off a back-door play to give the Sundogs a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.
The Rage's Brent Cullaton tied the game at one 10:39 into the second, sending home a rebound set-up by a shot off the stick of Scott Wray. Arizona's effort over the final four minutes of the middle frame paved the way to victory. Rob Lehtinen and Perry helped Joel Irving score his league-leading 27th goal of the season at 16:20 before Jon Landry sprung Perry on a clean break-away in the period's final minute. Marty Magers actually stoned the game's first star on the break-away, but Perry managed to jam home his own rebound at 19:08 to give the Sundogs a 3-1 edge heading to the third.
Simon Watson pulled Rocky Mountain within a goal early in the final period. With the team skating five-on-three, he fired a wrist shot past the glove hand of Arizona netminder Marco Emond, making it a one-goal game with just under 16 minutes remaining. The Rage never found the equalizer, though, and Perry completed the hat trick with an empty-netter at 19;15 to seal the win.
The loss tonight kicked-off a seven-game road trip for Rocky Mountain and dropped the team to 22-18-4 with 48 points. The club continues to hold down the fifth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference, three points behind both the Mississippi RiverKings and Oklahoma City Blazers, who are tied for third in the conference.
The Rage and Sundogs square-off again on Friday and Saturday. Both games can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1600 beginning at 6:55 p.m. with the pre-game show. The puck drops both nights at 7:05 p.m. Live audio and video streaming will also be carried on the CHL Network at www.rockymountainrage.com.
Rocky Mountain is on the first leg of a stretch of 12 of 13 on the road and does not return to Broomfield Event Center until a showdown with the RiverKings on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3:05 p.m.
