San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX-Laredo starter Juan Peralta settled down after a rough start to go 7.1 innings and give the Broncos a 10-7 win to salvage the finale of a four-game series at Foster Field on Friday night. The Colts had won the first three games of the series.

For the second night in a row Laredo would draw first blood as they scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by designated hitter D.J. Dixon and a sac fly by third baseman Johnathan Cisneros to take a 2-0 lead.

The Colts would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by first baseman Josh Collazo. The Broncos would retaliate with a run of their own in the second on an RBI double by second baseman Johnathan Dziomba to make the score 3-1.

San Angelo would get another run in the second on a solo-homer by rightfielder David Cardona (2) to cut the Laredo lead to one. However, the Broncos would come back once again in the third on an RBI single by catcher Salvador Paniagua to give themselves a 4-2 lead.

The Colts finally tied things up in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by third baseman Landon Camp and a RBI single by Cardona to knot the game up at four apiece.

Laredo would surge ahead by plating four runs in the sixth. The scoring began on an RBI single by first baseman Nick Mahin, which was followed by a throwing error from San Angelo starter Brian Henschel that allowed Paniagua to score and give the Broncos a 6-4 lead. Laredo then got a run on a wild pitch that brought Mahin in from third, and finished the inning with a sac fly from leftfielder Doug Thennis to make the score 8-4.

San Angelo would come storming back in the eighth via the longball. Landon Camp continued his incredible hitting barrage by smacking his 17th homer of the year, a solo shot, to cut the Laredo lead to three. It was Camp's 11th homerun in his last 15 games.

Cardona would then step up and belt a two-run homer, his second homerun of the game and third of the season, to pull the Colts to within one at 8-7.

But the Broncos were not to be denied. They would score two unearned runs off of the Colts' bullpen in the ninth on a sac fly by Paniagua and a passed ball by San Angelo catcher Trey Carter to extend the lead back to three at 10-7.

Broncos closer Dorado Reyes retired all five hitters he faced, including pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his third save of the season. Peralta upped his record to 7-1 after going 7.1 innings and allowing seven hits, five earned runs, four walks and six strikeouts. Starter Brian Hensche (4-7) took the loss for San Angelo after allowing eight runs on nine hits in six innings of work while walking four.

Laredo was led offensively by Paniagua who went 2-4 with two singles, two RBI and a run scored. The Colts were led by Cardona who went 3-4 with two homers, two runs scored, and four RBI.

San Angelo will now head out on the road for an eight-game trip, which begins Saturday with the first of a four-game series with Rio Grande Valley. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Bryan Heaston (2-2, 7.74 ERA) will go for the Colts against Andres Rosales (3-3, 5.34 ERA) of the White Wings. The Kemps Pregame Show gets the broadcast started at 6:50 and can be heard on 1260 KKSA.

The Colts won't be back at Foster Field until Sunday, August 16 when they begin a four-game series and homestand against the league-leading Edinburg Roadrunners. August 16 will also be Negro League Appreciation Night as the Colts will honor the former Negro Leaguers who played in San Angelo during their careers. First-pitch for the game is at 6:05.
