Perfect Storm Hits Seattle This Saturday

SEATTLE, Friday, May 16, 2008 - The Seattle Storm will tip-off its ninth season on Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m. against the Chicago Sky at KeyArena.

"This game is going to be one of the most exciting nights in local sports," said Storm CEO Karen Bryant. "We will have five of the top players in women's basketball on the floor as our starting five."

"There is tremendous momentum going into this game. We have new ownership, a new coach, Brian Agler and three former All-Stars, Sheryl Swoopes, Swin Cash and Yolanda Griffith, to go along with All-Stars Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird. Fans are going to experience world-class basketball and the energy and excitement that are the hallmark of Storm games."

To celebrate the evening, the first 10,000 people in attendance will receive a limited edition 2008 Storm commemorative program, and the first 5,000 will also receive a 2008 Storm schedule magnet provided by Starbucks Coffee.

The new Storm team and owners will be introduced to the crowd during a special presentation. Washington native and Columbia Records artist Brandi Carlile will perform the national anthem prior at the 7 p.m. tip-off. Other Opening Night activities include a Kids Corner for families to dine together, a Go Green initiative highlighting sustainable practices, face painting and sign-making stations located on the arena concourse.

On Tuesday, the WNBA announced a new league marketing partnership with McDonald's as the presenting partner of WNBA's tipoff week through May 24. The restaurant's logo will appear on Storm jerseys Opening Night.

A limited number of Opening Night tickets are still available. Fans can purchase tickets by visiting Storm.wnba.com, calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX or stopping at any Ticketmaster location. The following Tuesday on May 20, the Storm will host the Sacramento Monarchs on a nationally broadcast game on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m.
