Lansing Ice Nuts News Release

Athens, OH – The Lansing Ice Nuts of the IIHL head into their home season opener Sunday night at Munn Arena with a perfect 3-0-0 record after edging the Ohio Valley Ice Cats, 2-1, in a shootout Saturday night at Ohio University's Bird Arena.

For the second consecutive night neither team scored in the first period. But, unlike Friday night, the Ice Nuts scored first in the second when Rosty Saglo notched his second goal of the season for Lansing at 7:59. Matt Little and Matt Stack assisted.

Lansing held the 1-0 lead until late in the third when Ohio Valley's Nick Sabo scored the tying goal at 12:43 of the third period to force the extra session. Sabo was assisted by Mike Tefft.

In the ensuing 5-man shootout, Lansing saw goals by Ethan Burnes, Erroll McDonald and Brian Billiard (game winner) while Devin Goldberg and Leo James scored for the Ice Cats.

Also for the second consecutive night, Goldberg and Billiard squared off in a return bout when Goldberg dropped his gloves and issued the challenge early in the first. Billiard obliged and the dance was on.

Brian Tefft started in the Ice Cats goal for the second night making 31 saves. Rick Nickle made 21 stops for the Ice Nuts, picking up the victory. The shootout loss moved the Ice Cats into third place while Lansing improved their hold on first place.

The Ice Nuts will be back in action Sunday night versus the Northern Michigan Predators who they defeated 3-2 in the IIHL season opener.
