Predators Hand Lansing First Loss, 5-2

East Lansing, MI – Playing for the second consecutive-game with a short-bench due to the advancements of top scorers Ethan Burnes, Adam Rivers and Errol McDonald, the Lansing Ice Nuts were handed their first loss of the season by the Northern Michigan Predators, 5-2, on Sunday night at Munn Arena.

The Predators scored once in each the first two periods on goals by Jeff Earley and Paul Kasztelan before exploding for three third period goals to secure the victory. Defenseman Dominic Sereno scored first of the year the for Ice Nuts at 7:29 of the second to even the game before Kasztelan's goal put Northern Michigan back in front for good.

CJ Carlson provided the game winner from Dan Howard and Lee Jenke at 7:10 of the third as the Lasing began showing signs of wear due to their shortened bench. Howard then increased the Preds lead with his goal from Cory Anderson and Jenke at 10:11.

Lansing's Mike Budjos notched his first IIHL goal at 11:10 in an attempt to launch a Lansing comeback but Jenke's empty net goal with Lansing's Rick Nichol pulled for the extra attacker sealed the game's outcome with under 17-seconds remaining.

Nichol (22 saves) took the loss in net for the Ice Nuts as his record drops to 3-1-0. Overall the Ice Nuts are now 11-1-0 on the season as they head into a scheduled 10-day break.

Lansing will return to home ice action on Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17 at Munn Arena in 7:30 PM starts.

Nuts Notes

· Jon Sereno converted on the Lansing Ice Nut's and the IIHL's first ever penalty shot on Saturday night in Harbor Springs.

· Goaltending tandem Glenn Ridler and Rick Nichol have combined for a 2.82 GAA and .919 save percentage through their first 12-games.

· Lansing has outscored their opponents in the first 12-games 62-22 for a league leading +30 goal differential and an average of 5.16 goals scored per game while acquiring 132 minutes in penalties.
