
Ice Nuts Celebrate In Scoring Style; Shutout Ohio Valley, 13-0

East Lansing, MI â It was a definite Happy New Year in East Lansing Wednesday evening as goaltender Rick Nichol and the Lansing Ice Nuts totally dominated the Ohio Valley Ice Cats both on the scoreboard and the shot clock. Nichol turned aside all 21 shots he faced while his teammates fired a total of 58 shots at Ohio Valley goaltenders to pick up their first shutout of the season, 13-0 at Munn Arena.
The score sheet was almost a team roster as a total of 12 of the 14-man Ice Nuts bench picked up points.
Team captain Adam Rivers picked up Lansing's first hat trick of their short history scoring once in each period. Errol McDonald (2 goals; 3 assists) led the way in point production with five points, followed by Ethan Burnes (2 goals; 2 assists) and Rostyslav Saglo (4 assists) with four. Matt Little (2 goals, assist), Matt Stack (2 goals, assist), Brian Billiard (3 assists), Doug Little (goal, assist), Dan Pszenyczny (goal, assist), Chris Affoniti (2 assists) and Jon Sereno (2 assists) also had multi-point games while Tim Nelson, celebrating his 21st birthday, picked up an assist.
Other than a minor penalty to Ohio Valley's Devon Goldberg for interference at 2:54 of the second, the only other penalties in the game came in the opening frame when Nelson squared off with the Ice Cats Bryan Brown in a hot toe-to-toe battle in the Ice Cats zone. Brown was called for instigating, fighting and 10-minute misconduct while Nelson was handed a fighting penalty.
For Rick Nichol it was not only his first shutout for the Lansing Ice Nuts but also the first in his professional career. In 3.33 games played with the Ice Nuts, his record is now 3-0-0 with a .924 save percentage and 1.80 GAA. The win also improved Lansing's team record to 10-0-0.
The Ice Nuts will be back in action at Munn Arena on Sunday, January 4 when they take on the Northern Michigan Predators at 7:15 PM.

· Chris Affoniti was playing in his first game for the Lansing Ice Nuts
· Dan Pszenyczny goal Wednesday evening was his first in the IIHL among 5-points.
· Goaltending tandem Glenn Ridler and Rick Nichol have combined for a 2.60 GAA and .917 save percentage.
· Lansing has outscored their opponents in the first ten game 58-26 for a league leading +32 goal differential and an average of 5.80 goals scored per game while acquiring only 111 minutes in penalties.
