Cats Move Into Third Place Despite Shootout Loss

Athens, OH – Nick Sabo scored the tying goal for the Ohio Valley Ice Cats at 12:43 of the third period before dropping an shootout decision, 2-1, to the Lansing Ice Nuts Saturday night at Bird Arena. The shootout loss put the Cats on the standings board however with their first point in two games after losing at home to Lansing Friday night.

For the second consecutive night neither team scored in the first period. Unlike Friday night the Ice Nuts scored first in the second when Rosty Saglo notched his second goal of the season for Lansing at 7:59. Matt Little and Matt Stack assisted. In the ensuing 5-man shootout, Lansing saw goals by Ethan Burnes, Erroll McDonald and Brian Billiard (game winner), Devin Goldberg and Leo James scored for the Ice Cats.

Brian Tefft started in goal for the second consecutive night the Ice Cats making 31 saves. Rick Nickle saw his first action for the Ice Nuts stopping 21 Ohio Valley shots.

The Ice Cats move into third place with the shootout loss while Lansing improved to 3-0-0.
