
Pepsi to Sponsor Skills Competition

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Pepsi/Seltzer & Rydholm, Inc., has been named the title sponsor of the 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition, to be held on Sunday, February 2, at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic concludes the following night with the 2003 AHL All-Star Game.
"The Pepsi name is recognized worldwide as one of the leaders in beverage production," said Brian Petrovek, Chief Executive Officer of the Portland Pirates, host team for this year's All-Star Classic. "We're very pleased to have them on board supporting this event."
The 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition will feature the league's top Canadian-born players competing against players born in the United States and the rest of the world in seven skill events, including a fastest skater race, a hardest shot competition and an accuracy shooting contest.

AHL players representing 28 AHL clubs and 30 NHL affiliates will be selected to participate by AHL coaches and internet fan balloting on theahl.com. Of the 262 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 91 percent have competed in the NHL, including Tyler Arnason, Eric Boguniecki, Valeri Bure, Anson Carter, Pavol Demitra, J.P. Dumont, Mike Dunham, Patrik Elias, Martin Lapointe, John Madden, Mattias Norstrom, Steve Sullivan and Jason Williams.
