Peoria Signs Familiar Face in Net

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Wednesday that the team has signed former AHL Rivermen goaltender Paul Karpowich to an SPHL contract. He could play as early as this weekend.
Karpowich, 25, played two games for the AHL Rivermen last spring and posted a 4.52 goals against average with a .847 save percentage. He began this season in the ECHL with the Bakersfield Condors, where he made six appearances before he was released Nov. 9.
A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Karpowich spent four years at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York from 2008-2012. Over 130 games, he notched a record of 46-66-16 with a 2.93 goals against average and a .910 saves rate. Following his collegiate career, Karpowich turned pro with the Evansville Icemen (ECHL) on Oct. 13, 2012. He made 25 appearances with the Icemen including his first professional win on Nov. 2, 2012 vs. Wheeling.
The 6'2, 190-pound netminder was originally drafted in the seventh round (#185 overall) by the St. Louis Blues in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
He will join rookie Eric Levine in net.
In addition, emergency backup goaltender Kevin McFarland has been removed from the roster.
Peoria begins a home-and-home series next weekend against the Bloomington Thunder with a 7:15 p.m. puck drop on Friday at Carver Arena.
