Penguins Blast Admirals 8-1

NORFOLK, VA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Norfolk Admirals 8-1 in Game 5 on Friday night at Scope. The Penguins now lead the best-of-seven East Division Semifinals 3-2 as the series shifts to Wilkes-Barre for Game 6 on Sunday evening.

Micki DuPont and Stephen Dixon dented the twine for the Penguins in the first period. Ryan Stone netted a power play goal early in the second stanza for a 3-0 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lead. Admirals Captain Craig MacDonald gave the Admirals life at 14:30 of the second period after scoring a power play goal. However, Tom Gilbert answered with a man advantage marker of his own under two minutes later. The Penguins scored four goals in the final frame, with Marc-Antoine Pouiloit netting an even strength tally and Tim Wallace, Tyler Spurgeon and Connor James denting the twine with power play goals as Norfolk fell 8-1.

Corey Crawford (24 shots, 18 saves) got the loss. Mike Brodeur (6 shots, 4 saves) did not receive a decision. Nolan Schaefer (28 shots, 27 saves) got the win.

Norfolk was 1-5 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 5-9.

Game 6 will be played at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday. If Game 7 is needed, it will also be played in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday night at 7:05.
