Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, AA affiliate for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a transaction, as goaltender Patrick Killeen has been returned to the Nailers from the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The move is effective immediately.
Killeen, 21, is playing in his second season of professional hockey, as well as his second season with the Nailers. In 21 appearances thus far this season, the 6-foot-4 netminder has posted a 10-8-2 record, a 2.86 GAA, and an .880 Sv%, giving him a total of 29 wins in two seasons with Wheeling. Killeen's best stretch this season came in October, when he rattled off five consecutive victories, as the Nailers kicked off the 2011-12 campaign with a perfect 5-0 record. Patrick then faced his busiest stretch in December, when he appeared in 12 of the team's 14 games that month, going 5-5-2, while maintaining a goals against average under 3.00, and a save percentage over .900. Although he has yet to appear in a game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Killeen did appear in two games at the AHL level last season.
Prior to turning pro, Killeen spent parts of four season in the OHL with the Brampton Battalion. The Carp, ON native's workload increased during each of his four years, as he ended up playing in 63 games during his final season of junior hockey in 2009-10. That was also Patrick's best season with the Battalion, as he posted 23 wins, a 2.42 GAA, and a .913 Sv%, while also playing in eleven postseason contests.
