TOLEDO, Ohio -- First baseman Carlos Pena belted a solo homer in the bottom of the 12th to lift Toledo to a 6-5 victory and series win over Indianapolis Monday night at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens, who take three of four from the Tribe, improve to 47-29. The Indians fall to 45-32 on the season.

Toledo overcame two extra-inning deficits to get the job done. Indians 2B Ty Wigginton scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th when DH Graham Koonce pounded a double to right field, but the Mud Hens evened things in their next at-bat when SS Gookie Dawkins doubled to left and came around to score on RF David Espinosa's RBI single up the middle.

Indianapolis scored again in the top of the 11th when 2B Alfredo Amezaga and 1B Brad Eldred roped back-to-back doubles, but Toledo forced another frame when 2B Mike Hessman walked and came plateward on a wild pitch.

The extra-inning affair heated up down the stretch after the teams traded runs early in the contest. Indianapolis cracked the scoreboard first when RF Yurendell de Caster launched his eighth homer of the season -- a solo shot to left field -- in the top of the third.

Toledo took its first lead with a pair of runs in the home half of the third. Catcher Sandy Martinez and Dawkins registered back-to-back singles before four-time Major League All-Star Magglio Ordonez tagged an RBI double down the right-field line. DH Marcus Thames followed with an RBI single to left, which gave the home team a one-run advantage.

The Mud Hens added a run in the fifth when Espinosa pinch-ran for Ordonez and came plateward on CF Curtis Granderson's triple down the left-field line.

The Indians responded in the sixth. Wigginton singled up the middle before Koonce blasted his team-leading 13th roundtripper of the campaign -- a two-run shot to left field.

Tribe RHP Jeff Miller (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO), who started the night with an 0.55 ERA over his last 11 outings, fell to 1-4 with the loss. RHP Hansel Izquierdo (5.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO), who was making his first start for Indianapolis after being promoted from Double-A Altoona on June 12, took a no-decision.

Toledo RHP Mark Woodyard (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO), who worked a perfect 12th inning, improved to 3-2 with the win.

Koonce finished 3-for-5 with a double, homer and three RBI for Indianapolis. LF Dewayne Wise led the way for the Mud Hens, going 3-for-5 on the night.

Ordonez, who began a week-long rehabilitation assignment with Toledo earlier in the day, finished 1-for-2 with a walk in three plate appearances.

Indianapolis continues its 10-game road trip with a four-game series at Ottawa. Tuesday night's contest between the Indians and Lynx will be carried by ESPN-950 AM as Howard Kellman and Robert Portnoy have the call. The pre-game show begins at 5:45 p.m. with the first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m.
