Philadelphia KiXX News Release
Philadelphia, PA, January 27, 2007 - The Philadelphia KiXX (9-5) fell to the Chicago Storm (9-8) in front of 7,251 at the Wachovia Spectrum in the first game of a back-to-back weekend. The night, dubbed "Scout Night," offered special promotions and discounts to the area's boy scouts.
The Chicago Storm, playing in their third game in four days, are just one game behind Philadelphia after their 6-2 victory. The Storm struck first on a power-play goal from former KiXX player Chris Handsor, his 12th of the season. The goal, assisted by Matthew Stewart, came with just 38 seconds left in the first quarter. Dave Castellanos was busy serving a two-minute holding call, which allowed Baltimore to take the lead, 2-0.
Just over two minutes into the second quarter, reigning Defender-of-the-Week Pat Morris evened the score at two apiece with his fourth goal on the season from Dino Delevski. Chicago struck once more on the power play after a Sandre Naumoski tripping call followed by a yellow card. Rookie Stephen Armstrong gave the Storm a 4-2 lead on his 12th of the season, unassisted.
After a scoreless third, Chicago extended their lead to 6-2 on Awadalla Morad's 12th goal of the season, assist from Fabinho. Philadelphia could not close the gap, even with Morris playing 6th attacker for nearly four minutes. John Barry Nusum and Casey Barton did not dress for the KiXX, while player-coach Don D'Ambra and target Shawn Boney each played just one half. "We are in the middle of a long season, and guys are going to get hurt," stated Morris, who is back to 100% after a concussion that kept him out for three games. "We just need to learn to weather the Storm." KiXX keeper Peter Pappas stopped 8-11 shots, falling to 9-5 on the season. Storm keeper Jim Larkin improves to 6-7 after stopping 11-12 shots.
Philadelphia concludes the weekend's back-to-back set with the visit to the Motor City to square-off versus the expansion Detroit Ignition on Sunday, January 28. The contest is slated for a 4:35 pm ET kick-off at the Compuware Sports Arena.
Season tickets, 6-PaXX mini-plans, Family 4-PaXX and birthday packages are on sale now by calling the KiXX Ticket Office at 1-888-888-KiXX (5499).
