
Milwaukee Outlast California in High Scoring Affair

(STOCKTON, CALIF.) - No rest for the weary as the Cougars return to Stockton to take on the Milwaukee Wave. The team returned to California this morning, drove straight to the arena and suited up to play the same team that they narrowly lost to the night before 16-14.
Now being led by forward and interim head coach Bernie Lilavois, the Cougars begin the second half of the season with a quest for a playoff spot.
California started off the scoring early with a 2-point goal by forward Aaron Susi just one minute into the game on a Vicente Figueroa assist. Defender Nelson Santana extended the Cougars lead 1:10 later off a Susi assist to put the team up 4-0 before Milwaukee knew what was happening.
The Wave got on the board on a Joe Hammes unassisted shot past Cougars goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek to make it a 4-2 contest.
Midfielder Brian Farber got the points back on an unassisted goal past Wave âkeeper Nick Vorberg at the 11:39 mark of the first quarter.
Wave defender Todd Dusosky closed the gap to 6-4 on an unassisted shot five minutes into the quarter.
Hammes tied the game up 6-6 on an assisted goal from Todd Dusosky for the last goal of the first quarter.
Milwaukee took the lead 8-6 on a Michael King goal 1:39 into the second quarter. Marcelo Fontana was credited with the assist.
Cougars forward Antonio Sutton re-tied the score 8-8 on an unassisted goal 9:20 into second quarter and Faber re-took the lead on a Figueroa assist to end the half.
The Wave came out of the locker room striking first on a Guiliano Oliviero unassisted goal to knot up the score at ten aside.
Figueroa put the Cougars back on top 12-10 on an assist by Eduardo Velez with 7:17 to go in the third quarter.
Todd Dusosky tied the score at twelve all two minutes later on a Greg Howes assist.
Howe and Dusosky hooked up again to put Milwaukee ahead 14-12, this time it was Howe getting the goal and Dusosky posted the assist.
Sutton tied the score at 14-14 with an unassisted shot for the last goal of the third quarter.
Anthony Maher kicked off the fourth quarter nailing an unassisted shot past Jakubek just :33 seconds into the quarter to go up 16-14.
Cougar midfielder Semir Mesanovic tied the game again 1:30 later on an Enrique Tovar assist.
Brian Farber's hat trick on a Ryan Hall assist 3:42 into the fourth quarter put the Cougars on top 18-16.
Milwaukee took back the lead for good on three unanswered goals from Howes, Fontana and an empty netter by Troy Dusosky to give the Wave a 23-18 win over the Cougars.
The Cougars have a few days to rest from their back-to-back excursion before facing the Detroit Ignition on February 3 at the Stockton Arena at 6:00 p.m.
