Pensacola Pelicans News Release

It was PensacolaÂ’s turn to hit the long ball tonight as they hit three homeruns on their way to defeating the Senators 6-0 in front of more than 1,200 fans.

It was a classic lefty versus lefty match-up as Jeff Norris for Pensacola and Ryan Snyder kept each team scoreless for the first four innings. Pensacola broke the scoreless tie when they scored one run in the 5th inning. Nestor Smith and Carlos Mendoza led off the inning with back-to back singles. Jose Salas then grounded into a double play but at the same time pushed Smith to third base. The next batter, Mike Pierre hit the first pitch up the middle that scored Smith.

Jeff Norris kept the Jackson hitters off balance all night and recorded his second win of the year. Norris finished throwing seven innings while giving up zero runs on five hits and struck out three.

The Pelicans had their break out inning in the 7th when they scored four runs thanks to three homeruns. Smith and Mendoza led off the inning with back to back solo shots to make the score 3-0. Pierre later reached by error and then scored by a Trino Aguilar homerun over left field. Pensacola finished the inning with three hits, all being homeruns.

In the 8th, Pensacola got their final run when Jose Salas hit an RBI sac-fly that scored George Branch who singled to lead off the inning.

Edwar Ramirez came in to finish the game in relief for Norris. He threw the final 8th and 9th innings giving up no runs on one hit and struck out three.

These two teams will face off tomorrow night at 6:35.
