ABOUT THE SERIES

Pensacola (3-4) visits the Fort Worth Cats (5-3) for a four game series at LaGrave Field. A little more than week ago, Fort Worth secured their spot in the play offs after winning the first half with Pensacola coming in second place finishing one game back.

Pensacola has a commanding edge over the Cats this season winning six of the seven contests played and have an overall record of 12-9 since last year. Four of those six wins came in the form of sweep at LaGrave Field to finish the first half of this season.

The Pelicans are leading Fort Worth in every major offensive category when they play each other. Pensacola has the edge in batting avaerage (.313 to .233), extra base hits (25 to 17), runs scored (42 to 33) and hits (79 to 54). Four Pelicans have double-digit hits; Jose Salas and Nestor Smith each have 12 and Juan Rocha and Carlos Mendoza each have 11. No Fort Worth hitters have more than nine hits against Pelicans pitching. Jose Salas and Juan Rocha are both hitting over .400 against Fort Worth and have combined to hit four doubles, four homeruns and 15 RBI this season.

The Pelicans pitching staff also has proven to have the edge over the Cats pitchers having an ERA of 4.50 to compared to one of 5.37 of Fort Worth's pitching staff. The Pelicans have struckout 55 batters to the Cats 47. All six wins this season have been earned by a different Pelicans pitcher each time.

Pensacola: Carlos Mendoza -SS- Last 5 games - .409, 1 Grandslam, 7 RBI; Jeff Norris -LHP - 2-0 in last two starts. 1-0 vs. Fort Worth;

Fort Worth: Ryan Weems -LHP -6th in the league with 3.54 ERA in 74 IP, 79 K, 19 BB; Tony Mota -OF- .385, 3B, HR 3 RBI against Pensacola this season.
