Pelicans Ready for Longest Home Stand of Season

Pensacola (20-15) hosts the San Angelo Colts (18-17) for the first time this season. Pensacola played their third series of the year at San Angelo and lost both games by scores of 3-4 to 2-9.

The third game of the series on Sunday, May 15 was rained out and will be played tonight as a double header at Pelican Park starting at 5:30. Both games will be seven innings each with the second game starting a half hour after the first game ends.

This season, Joe Espada has had the most success against the Colt's pitching staff, getting a hit 50 percent of the time. Carlos Mendoza is hitting .429 with two runs scored and a homerun. Larry Bethea has also scored twice and had one homerun against San Angelo.

For the Colts, J.P. Schmidt was on fire versus the Pelicans pitching staff hitting .579 with a double, two homeruns and four RBI.

San Angelo's pitching staff has a 2.50 ERA against Pensacola, giving up only five runs in 18 innings pitched. Joldy Watts and Charlie Griffin are both 1-0 against Pensaacola this year. Griffin was with Pensacola in 2004 before he was released prior to the 2005 season.

This series will be a big one as Pensacola is fighting to stay in second place and challenge Fort Worth for the CBL lead heading into the last two weeks of the first half.
