Jackson, MS; June 13, 2005 – The Central Baseball League (CBL) today announced that Jackson Senators outfielder Vince Faison and El Paso Diablos right-handed pitcher Derrick DePriest were named Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 6 – June 12. Faison and DePriest were chosen by SportsTicker, the CBL's official statistician.

Faison went 8-for-21 with five home runs in five different games, two doubles and 12 RBI, good for a 1.143 slugging percentage, as the Senators went 3-4 on the week. The Lyons, Ga., native is currently hitting .309, is in a five-way tie for the league lead with nine home runs, and leads the league with seven triples and 26 extra-base hits.

Originally a first-round draft pick of San Diego in 1999, Faison, 23, spent five seasons in the Padres organization, reaching as high as AA Mobile in 2002 and 2003. After the 2003 season, he was shipped to the Seattle organization, and played with four different clubs, including AAA Tacoma, in 2004. 2005 is Faison's first season in independent baseball.

DePriest appeared in four games for the Diablos and pitched eight innings without allowing a run, striking out eight and notching two victories for the Diablos, who went 5-2 on the week. Sporting a sizzling 1.00 ERA in 17 appearances, DePriest is tied for fourth in the league with five saves.

The Jackson Senators are part of the Central Baseball League, an independent league of eight professional baseball teams located throughout four southern states. The league is playing its twelfth season this summer with teams located in Edinburg, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Robstown, and San Angelo, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Pensacola, Florida; and Jackson, Mississippi. The CBL will play a 94-game schedule between May and August 2005.
