
Pelicans Look to Lengthen Winning Streak

Pensacola (5-2) heads on its first long road trip of the season as they travel to second place San Angelo (4-2) and then to seventh place El Paso (1-5), which is a short 27 hour bus trip to the other side of Texas.
Pensacola took complete control over the Colts last year as they won 10 of the 12 games played and outscored the Colts a whopping 96 - 45. Pelicans hitters combined to hit .324 with 15 homeruns, 35 doubles and a slugging percentage of .513 against Colts' pitching.
Larry Bethea and George Branch led the team versus the Colts as they hit .444 and .400 respectively. They combined to hit seven of the 15 homeruns and 10 doubles.
The Pelicans had their best offensive performance of the year against San Angelo. On June 8 in San Angelo, the Pelicans scored 17 runs on 22 hits that included five homeruns which were all team highs for the season.
To be 10-2, the pitching staff definately did their job, posting a 2.72 ERA and holding the Colts' batters to a .234 batting average. Jeff Norris finished the season 2-0 against the Colts with a minuscule 0.60 ERA which was accompanied by 12 strikeouts and only three walks. Gerardo Casadiego was also 2-0 against the Colts in 2004.
