Pelicans' Bats Silenced, Only Second Time All Season

The rain quit just long enough to get first of a three game series in between the El Paso Diablos and Pensacola Pelicans as it rained until the first pitch and picked up again as soon as the game ended. More than 1,000 faithful Pelicans fans saw a quite game, a rarity in the Pelicans' bats being silenced in a 6-0 win for the Diablos.

El Paso scored one run in each the first and second inning. In the 1st, Juan Camacho doubled to score Carlos Sepulveda who reached by a fielders choice earlier. Alejandro Fernandez homered in the 2nd inning giving the Diablos a 2-0 lead.

In the 4th inning, Ben Rosenthal and John Schimtz each singled before Jorge Diaz hit his first professional homerun, a three-run blast making the score 5-0 in favor of El Paso.

Pensacola hitters scraped four hits off of the El Paso pitching staff, two from Carlos Mendoza and two from Juan Rocha.

Starting pitcher Jose Garcia got the win for El Paso, throwing five innings while giving up three hits and striking out three.

El Paso got the final run of the ballgame in the 5th inning when Rosenthal singled in Camacho, who singled earlier in the inning.

Matt Perdue and Mike Settle came on in relief of Pelicans starting pitcher Jerry Dunn and pitched 4.1 scoreless innings and struckout three.

Game two will feature Robbie Hebert on the mound for Pensacola facing Tony O'Donnell for El Paso starting 6:35 p.m.
