Time: 1:59 W: David McWatters (9-2) L: Bo Edmiston (5-7) S: BJ Litchfield (5) HR: SHR - Nick Sorensen (7) San Angelo opened up a 7-0 lead and held on the rest of the way to pick up the victory over Shreveport. The Colts scored five in the third off of Sports starter Bo Edmiston and then tacked on two more in the fourth; Shreveport came back with four unearned runs in the fifth on a grand slam by RF Nick Sorenson, but could get no closer. LF Kory Drew and 3B JP Schmidt both had two hits for the Colts, while David McWatters got his ninth win of the season, moving him into a tie for fourth in the league. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SHREVEPORT 3, SAN ANGELO 1, Game 2 @ San Angelo, Texas. Time: 1:56 ATT: 1,466 W: Bert Snow (10-6) L: Jason Wiedmeyer (8-10) HR: SHR - Chad Gambill (22) Bert Snow was brilliant, tossing a seven-inning one-hitter as Shreveport got a badly-needed 3-1 victory in the second game of the doubleheader. A fourth-inning double by DH Rafael Alvarez was all the offense that San Angelo could muster, as Snow struck out six and the Sports remained in the hunt for a playoff spot. DH Chad Gambill led the way offensively for Shreveport, going 2-for-3 with his league-leading 22nd home run and two RBI, while C Jason Torres and SS Enohel Polanco had two hits each. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EL PASO 6, PENSACOLA 0 @ Pensacola, Fla. Time: 2:42 ATT: 1,019 W: Jose Garcia (1-1) L: Jerry Dunn (1-3) S: None HR: EP - Alejandro Fernandez (7), Dustin Smith (1) El Paso stayed alive in the wild-card and divisional chases with a convincing 6-0 shutout of Pensacola. Jose Garcia, John Hummel and Alexis Guzman combined to stymie Pelicans hitters, giving up just four hits and striking out four. Up 1-0, the Diablos doubled their lead in the second with C Alejandro Fernandez's home run to left center, and added three more in the fourth on CF Dustin Smith's three-run dinger, his first homer of the season. Five different players had two hits for El Paso, while the two-hit evenings of 2B Carlos Mendoza and DH Juan Rocha were bright spots for Pensacola. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- COASTAL BEND @ FORT WORTH, suspended, rain @ Fort Worth, Texas. The Coastal Bend-Fort Worth game was suspended in the bottom of the first inning due to rain. It will be resumed on Tuesday at 5:05, with the regularly scheduled game taking place after the completion of the suspended game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDINBURG 9, JACKSON 8 @ Edinburg, Texas. Time: 3:17 ATT: 2,882 W: Kevin Hull (8-6) L: Rusty Camp (6-12) S: Steve Wilkerson (24) HR: JAX - Edgar Tovar (1) Edinburg built up a 9-0 lead and held on for dear life the rest of the way, surviving a furious Jackson comeback to win 9-8. Up 3-0, the Roadrunners scored four more in the fourth on an error, a wild pitch, and a two-run double from 1B Eddie Lara, and added another two in the fifth on a CF Amado German two-run double. Jackson came back with two in the sixth, two more in the seventh on a two-run double from 1B Vince Faison, three in the eighth on a two-run dong from SS Edgar Tovar and an RBI single from LF Selwyn Langaigne and another in the ninth on DH Nick Blue's RBI double, before Steve Wilkerson shut the door for his league-leading 24th save of the season. German, Lara and RF Cedric Harris each had three hits for Edinburg, while Langaigne went 3-for-3 for the Senators.
