Sun Parts Rainy Skies and Shines on the Pelicans
Pelican's fans enjoyed a great game in the coolest weather of the summer. The Pelicans extended their winning streak to three by beating the Jackson Senators 5-4.
Pensacola scored first in the fourth inning when Larry Bethea got an infield single and advanced to second base by an over-throw from Senators third baseman, Matt Sanchez. Josey Shannon then doubled to the left center field gap scoring Bethea to give the Pelicans the early lead of 1-0. The Pelicans added two more in the 7th and two in the 8th.
In the 8th, Carlos Mendoza reached on an infield single. Designated hitter, George Branch, then sent a Reid Casey fastball over the left center field wall for a two run homerun, his fourth of the the year, to give the Pelicans a 5-1 lead going into the 9th.
Things got interesting in the Senators half of the 9th. Pelican pitcher, Jimmy Gregg hit Tyson Boston to lead things off, then managed to walk Nick Sorenson, Azarias Corbeil, and Matt Sanchez, scoring Boston, literally giving the Senators their second run. Byron Batson came on to pick up Gregg. Catcher, Matt Tindell then allowed a pass ball to score Corbeil, then threw the ball past the pitcher to score Sorenson making the score 5-4. That is where the game would end giving the Pelicans their 11th game of the year and improving to 11-14. The loss drops Jackson to 11-13.
Pelicans pitcher, Trey Stephens got the win and once again pitched brilliantly, going 7 innings, giving up 0 runs on 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts. Stephens improves his record to (2-3). The Pelicans were able to hand Jackson pitcher, Rusty Camp, his first loss of the season, sending him to (3-1).
On the Road Again
On June 3, the Pelicans take off on a six game road trip over eight days. The Pelicans first stop is in Amarillo for the first meeting between the Dillas. Pensacola then heads to San Angelo to take on the Colts for a three game series. The Pelicans return home on June 11 to host the Amarillo Dillas for a four game series.
Who likes Austin Powers? â Yeah Baby!!
Airwave Dave will be here on Friday and Saturday, June 11 and 12. Dave is an Austin Powers impersonator who sings, acts, dresses, walks, talks and plays the piano just like the real Austin Powers. He will be entertaining Pelicans fans for those two days with different jokes, skits and games on the field. This is sure to be a great time.
Friday night, Dave will make his way downtown to Rosie O'Grady's in the Seville Quarter for a little dueling piano action after the game. How else better to spend your Friday then go to Pelicans game and watch Austin Powers then follow him downtown to play some music?
