Colts Sweep Amarillo

June 2, 2004 - Central Baseball League (Central League)
San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX- The matchup on paper, favored Amarillo, who was throwing their ace against the Colts in an attempt to salvage the last game of the series.

The Colts had Chad Johnson on the mound, who'd not had much luck this season, but Chad will circle this date on the calender as the day that things started to turn around for him. Johnson went 8 innings, striking out 11 for his 2nd win of the season. In the game, he did allow 14 hits, but still managed just 1 earned run as the final in this one was San Angelo 12, Amarillo 4.

The Dillas actually had a 4-1 lead going to the 5th inning, that's when Tony James went deep to cut the lead in half. One inning later, the Colts sent 12 men to the plate, in an inning that saw them score 7 times to blow the game open. They'd go on to score 3 more in the 7th to give the final score of 12-4.

In the game, Juan Rocha had a 4-5 night, driving home 2. Jorge Diaz, the league leader in stolen bases, didn't swipe a single bag, yet he was still right in the middle of all the offense, driving home 4. Diaz and Ricky Magdaleno would each go 3-5 with 2 doubles apiece.

For Amarillo, they were lead by Dallas McMann and Jeremy Todd, each of whom had 3 hits on the night. Johnson took the win to go to 2-4 on the season, while Rosa went 5 1/3, and took the loss to fall to 2-3. For the Colts, that win makes it 3 in a row, as they sweep the Amarillo Dillas.
