Peanuts Three-Hit Macon to Open Series with Win

July 12, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, remained undefeated in the South Coast League second half with a 3-0 victory over the Macon Music Thursday night. Jerome Gamble pitched five innings of no-hit baseball while Nick Prosise went 3-3 with a run scored to lead the Peanuts to victory.

Macon Starting pitcher Russ Stout entered the game with a 2.01 ERA, which was the best in the league. He did not allow a run in the first two innings but the Peanuts finally got on the board in the third. Joey Hooft hit an RBI single to score Gamble with no outs. After a controversial double-play, Curtis Goodwin Sr. hit a double to right to score both Prosise and Doc Brooks. Those were the only runs the team scored all night but it was more than enough for a victory.

Pitching in front of scouts from a number of Major League organizations, Jerome Gamble did not allow a single hit in his five innings of work while striking out three. Jake Upwood and Austin Weilep combined for two innings of work. Drew Shetrone pitched the final two innings and struck out two to get his fourth save of the season.

With the win, South Georgia has cut Macon's lead in the "Peach Series Presented by Fairchild Roofing" to just one game. The Peanuts will look to win the series and even up the Peach series on Friday. Dustin Taylor will get the start for the Peanuts. First pitch is set for 7:10. Tickets are still available by visiting the Peanuts box office at Paul Eames Park or by logging onto southgeorgiapeanuts.com. The game can be heard throughout South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
