Peanuts Open Road Trip With A Win

South Georgia Peanuts News Release


The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, remained undefeated at the Charlotte Sports Park with an 8-2 victory over the Redfish on Thursday night. Shannon Wirth moved back into a tie for the league lead in victories by picking up his eight win of the season.

The Peanuts got all the runs they would need in the third inning. The team scored a total of six runs in the inning while sending ten batters to the plate. Johnny Washington had the biggest hit with a two-run double. Joey Hooft and Doc Brooks also had an RBI in the frame.

The Peanuts and Redfish went on to trade two more runs in the game. Charlotte County plated two runs in the sixth inning while the Peanuts scored a run in each of the eighth and ninth innings.

Shannon Wirth pitched six innings allowing no earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Chris Webb and Ja Jones combined to pitch the final three innings of the game without allowing a run. At the plate, Hooft, Brooks and Washington were the only Peanuts with more than one hit.

With the win, the Peanuts moved to 7-0 at Charlotte Sports Park this season and 12-1 against the Redfish this season. The Peanuts go for the series win on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" or online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
