Peacock RBI Single Leads Bats Over Yankees 5-4

Rochester, NY - In the game of baseball each team gets three outs per inning and it's up to the team to decide what to do with them. Louisville scored all five of its runs with two outs in the inning to take game two of a four game series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by a score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field in Rochester.

The Bats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a Neftali Soto two-run homer that bounced off the top of the left field wall and carried into the bullpen. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter, D.J. Mitchell got two quick outs to start the top of the first, but Mike Costanzo extended the inning with a walk and Soto made him pay with the two run blast. Ronnier Mustelier cut the Louisville lead in half with a leadoff homerun way over the left field wall in the home half of the first.

In the top half of the second, Joey Gathright made it a 3-1 ball game in favor of the Bats with an RBI single, which dropped right in front of a hustling Chris Dickerson in left field. With one out in the bottom of the inning, the Yankees had runners on second and third for Gustavo Molina and the Yankee catcher roped a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Laird to score from third, bringing Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to within 3-2.

Soto made it a two-run game in favor of the Bats yet again; this time he sent an RBI single to center giving Louisville the 4-2 advantage after 4 1/2 innings of play. All of the runs the Bats scored came with two outs in the inning. Russell Branyan countered with some power of his own with a long home run over the left field wall. Branyan's fifth homer of the year brought the Yankees to within 4-3, however the Yankees weren't done just yet. Kevin Russo capped the two-run seventh inning with an RBI single to right-centerfield, which allowed Doug Bernier to score all the way from first.

The Bats captured the lead in the top half of the sixth on yet another two-out RBI single. This time Brad Peacock singled to center allowing Bill Rinehart to score from second, giving Louisville the 5-4 advantage.

D.J. Mitchell suffered the loss falling to 5-3 on the season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right-hander tossed six innings allowing five runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking four. New York Yankee reliever David Robertson made his first rehab appearance with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, throwing one inning earning a strike out, a ground out and a strike out. Tim Gustafson earned the win for Louisville improving to 1-1 on the season. Donnie Joseph earned the save for the Bats as he pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Louisville head to the diamond for game three of a four game set tomorrow evening at 7:05 PM. Right-hander Ramon Ortiz (4-3, 3.52) gets the ball for the Yankees, while fellow right-hander Pedro Villarreal (2-2, 3.50) gets the nod for the Bats.
