Published on July 18, 2011 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Brandon Belt of the Fresno Grizzlies and Brad Mills of the Las Vegas 51s have been named Pacific Coast League Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 14-17, the league office announced today.

Belt paced the league with a .632 on-base percentage during the four-day stretch after drawing six walks to go along with his six hits. The San Francisco Giants' farmhand reached base safely at least twice in all four games, including three times in each of his first three contests. On July 14th, Belt reached safely in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk. A sixth-inning home run by Belt in the July 14th game provided the difference for a 3-2 Fresno victory over the Sacramento River Cats.

The native of Texas also added a .462 batting average (6-for-13) during the week, raising his season average with the Grizzlies to .333 in 42 games. Belt possesses a team-best .469 on-base percentage as well. The 23-year-old has split 2011 between Fresno and San Francisco, playing in 19 games with the parent club.

Mills tossed eight innings of one-hit, shutout baseball against the Tucson Padres on July 17th in his lone start for the 51s last week. After walking James Darnell with two outs in the first inning, Mills went on to retire 19 consecutive Tucson hitters and took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning. Matt Clark managed a leadoff single in the eighth frame to break up the southpaw's no-hitter, but Mills closed out the inning to solidify the one-hit victory.

Mills, who was the starting pitcher for the PCL All-Stars on July 13th, became the first PCL pitcher this season to cross the century mark in strikeouts with the addition of his six punchouts against the Padres. Entering Monday, the 26-year-old is the PCL leader in strikeouts and innings pitched this season with 105 and 123.2, respectively. The Arizona native is also among the league leaders in earned run average (3rd, 3.71) and WHIP (2nd, 1.25).
