Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League's North Division, are proud to announce that forward Robbie Payne has been named Combat Hockey's North Division Star of the Week for the week ending September 16th.
Payne, the 19-year-old NAHL veteran, cemented his award during the weekend's NAHL Showcase Tournament, featuring all 24 teams in the league. The tournament, which poses four games in four days, was dominated by Kalamazoo, as they posted a record of 4-0-0.
Payne, a Gaylord, Michigan native, showcased his skills with a five goal tournament, including two, two-goal games, one of which consisted of a game-winning tally. He also added an assist that helped him register six total points during the weekend. His five goal output leaves Payne tied for first in goals scored in the entire NAHL.
"Robbie's goals were timely," said Kalamazoo head coach Marc Fakler. He also wasn't shy in adding, "and some of them were highlight reel goals too." Fakler then noted that Payne "has matured as a player, and has a tremendous skill set. We are very happy to have him a part of our club."
