Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
The Pawtucket Red Sox will open the 2006 season at McCoy Stadium on Thursday, April 6th against the Indianapolis Indians at 7:05 pm. The PawSox, who ironically played their 2005 season-opener at Indianapolis in a game started by Curt Schilling and won by current Pittsburgh ace Zach Duke, will this year host the Indianapolis Indians for a season-opening 4-game series at McCoy. The 2006 season begins at McCoy with games on April 6 and April 7 (both at 7:05 pm), followed by weekend affairs on Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 both at 1:05 pm vs. Indianapolis. The Rochester Red Wings will then visit for a 4-game series from April 10-13 (the first three games at 6:05 pm and the finale a weekday matinee at 12:05 pm) before the PawSox head out on their initial roadtrip of the season (8-games) to Charlotte and Durham from April 14-21.
A major highlight to the 2006 schedule will occur on June 23 when the PawSox celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the completion of The Longest Game in professional baseball history. Pawtucket will be hosting Columbus on June 23 at 7:05 pm but before the game the PawSox will honor many of the players who took part in the famous 33-inning game that took place at McCoy on April 18-19 and June 23 of 1981. Further details involving the events planned for The Longest Game Anniversary will be released in the coming months.
The PawSox will once again play a 144-game International League schedule (72 games at home and 72 on the road). All 14 teams are in the same divisional set-ups as last year. Four teams will again qualify for the International League playoffs that begin on September 6 - the three division winners and one wild card (the second-place team with the best record).
The Sox will play 16 games against each of their five International League North rivals (8 home & 8 away) and 8 games against each of the other eight IL clubs from the West & South Divisions (4 home & 4 away).
The home schedule consists of 56 night games and 16 day games with the following breakdown by month: April (14), May (15), June (12), July (13), August (16), and September (2).
All PawSox home night games during April will begin at 6:05 pm. Pawtucket will commence with 7:05 pm weeknight starts on May 9 and play virtually all of their weeknight home games at 7:05 pm for the remainder of the season. The PawSox will play each of their Saturday night home games one hour earlier than weeknights beginning at 6:05 pm. Sunday games will remain at 1:05 pm with the exceptions of May 28 (Memorial Day eve) and July 2 which will begin at 6:05 pm with fireworks to follow both games. The PawSox will also hold fireworks shows following the games on Saturday, April 22 vs. Buffalo at 6:05 pm; Monday, July 3 vs. Scranton at 6:05 pm; and Friday, September 1 vs. Ottawa at 6:05 pm. The Sox will conclude their regular-season home schedule on Saturday, September 2 vs. Ottawa at 6:05 pm before ending the regular-season with a pair of games in Syracuse on September 3 and Labor Day Monday, September 4.
The PawSox have announced that, for the third consecutive year, all ticket prices will remain the same for the 2006 season. Box Seats will once again be priced at $9.00 apiece. Adult General Admission tickets will remain at $6.00 while General Admission tickets for both Children (aged 12 & under) and Senior Citizens will still be just $4.00 apiece.
PawSox Season Tickets are priced at $550.00 each (a significant savings of $98 off the box office price) and will include a free season ticket holder kick-off barbecue prior to the Saturday, April 8 game with Indianapolis at 1:05 pm.
