Patterson Stops 50 in Cutthroats 2-1 Win over Arizona

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Luke Fulghum and AJ Gale provided the offense while Kent Patterson shined with a 50-save performance to propel the Cutthroats to a 2-1 victory over the Arizona Sundogs on Saturday night at Tim's Toyota Center in front of 3,453.

Patterson's 50-save night set a new franchise high for the Cutthroats (19-13-4) as the rookie netminder recorded his 11th win of the season. It was also Denver's first win on their 12-game road trip throughout the month of January. Patterson's 50 saves are the highest recorded in the Central Hockey League this year.

JP Chabot and Brad Smyth each tallied assists in the Denver win. Patterson improved his run to 9-2-2 in his last 13 games for the Fish. The University of Minnesota product saved his best for last, turning aside 21 shots in the third period alone for the Fish.

Fulghum opened up the game's scoring with a wrist shot from the right circle 1:54 into the first period then Gale snapped home a breakaway goal at 5:30 for his 21st of the season to push Denver in front, 2-0.

Chad Nehring scored his league-leading 25th goal of the year with eight minutes to play in the second to put the Sundogs (16-17-4) on the board.

The Cutthroats were 0-for-1 on the power play and the Sundogs finished 0-for-3.

The Cutthroats continue their January road trip with a return to the Midwest next week as they visit the Bloomington Blaze on Friday. Puck drop is set for 6:05 PM MST.
