The Week in Review

January 1 /08- Regina Pats -1 Vs. Swift Current Broncos -2 OT

The Pats entered their 42nd game of the season vs. the Swift Current Broncos with a short bench as Logan Pyett was still away at the World Junior Tournament, Garrett Mitchell and Alex Pym were still away at the World Under 17 Tournament, Troy Ofukany and Todd Kennedy were out with a suspensions and Jared Jagow and Tim Kraus were both out with injuries. It would be the Broncos opening the scoring with 5 minutes remaining in the 1st period as Levi Nelson would find a rebound to make the score 1-0 after one. The Pats would respond just minutes into the 2nd as Michael MacAngus (11) would score from behind the net to knot things at 1-1 after two. After a scoreless 3rd period, the Pats entered overtime shorthanded as Michael MacAngus was given a questionable tripping call at the 20 minute mark of the 3rd. The Pats successfully killed the penalty and it looked as though the game was heading to a shootout, but with just over a second left the Broncos Michael Wilson beat Pats goaltender Linden Rowat to give the Broncos the 2-1 overtime victory.

January 5/08- Regina Pats - 2 Vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes -1 SO

The Pats entered their 43rd game of the season with four new players in the line-up, as well as two affiliated players as the Lethbridge Hurricanes visited the Brandt Centre. After a scoreless 1st period, newly acquired Dallas Jackson (5) opened the scoring with a powerplay goal. That would hold up until the 3rd when the Hurricanes would score a powerplay goal of their own when leading scorer Mitch Fadden capitalized on a goal mouth scramble to knot the game at one's. The Hurricanes would then be granted a 5 minute powerplay when newly acquired J.D Watt would be given a major for elbowing. On the ensuing powerplay the Pats tightened up and forced the game into overtime. After the scoreless overtime the Pats and Hurricanes would head to the shootout, this would be the Pats third shootout in their last seven games. The shootout would be ended by none other than shootout specialist Jordan Eberle. Eberle would be the only player on either team able to score as he moved his perfect shootout stats to 5 for 5. Linden Rowat picked up his 19th victory of season, while Michael Maniago was tagged with the shootout loss.

January 6/08- Regina Pats - 2 @ Swift Current Broncos 3 OT

The Pats came into Sunday's contest looking to win back to back games after the 3-2 shootout victory Saturday night against Lethbridge. It would be the Broncos who would open the scoring as Levi Nelson scored his 15th of season to give the Broncos the early lead. The Pats would respond less than a minute later when Garrett Mitchell (4 ) scored in his first game back from the Under 17 World Hockey Championship to tie the score 1-1. After a scoreless 2nd period the Broncos would score less than a minute into the 3rd frame on the powerplay when David Stieler beat Pats goaltender Linden Rowat to give the Broncos the lead. The Pats would press and eventually get the equalizer when Matt Strueby (4) scored to put the game into overtime. In the extra frame it would be the Broncos capitalizing, as Stieler would score his second of the game to give the Broncos their 2nd overtime victory over the Pats this week. Linden Rowat was tagged with the overtime loss, while Travis Yonkman made 17 saves for the victory.
