
Hitmen's Bortis Named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Kyle Bortis of the Calgary Hitmen.
Bortis picked up 10 points in five games during the week of December 31st through to January 6th. He scored four goals, six assists and had a plus minus rating of +8, helping the Hitmen to a 5-0 record in that span.
On Tuesday, January 1st, the Hitmen rolled into the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon to face the Blades. Bortis netted two goals and two assists in the Hitmen's 4-2 win over the Blades. He was also named the games 1st Star. The following night, Wednesday, January 2nd, at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert, Bortis picked up one assist in the Hitmen's victory over the Raiders 7-3.
On Friday, January 4th, the Hitmen hosted the visiting Kootenay Ice at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary. Bortis potted two goals and added an assist as the Hitmen downed the Ice 9-2. He was also named the games 2nd Star.
On Saturday, January 5th, the Red Deer Rebels played host to the Calgary Hitmen at the Enmax Centrium. Bortis picked up one assist in the Hitmen's 4-3 victory over the Rebels. The following day, Sunday, January 6th, the Hitmen wrapped up there five games in six nights at Rexall place in Edmonton taking on the Oil Kings. Bortis added another assist, helping the Hitmen to a 6-2 victory.
Bortis's consistent play has helped the Hitmen to a six game winning streak and nine wins in their last 10 games. The Calgary Hitmen currently sit in top spot of the WHL Eastern Conference and are tied for first in the WHL with the Memorial Cup Champion Vancouver Giants.
Bortis, a 19 year old from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is in his third year of play in Western Hockey League. He got his start with the Swift Current Broncos back in 2005, and joined the Calgary Hitmen near start of this season.
The WHL has also nominated Torrie Jung of the Kelowna Rockets for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week award.
