Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats Hockey Club is proud to announce that they have signed 2022 second-round pick Corban Almen to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.
"The scouts had him ranked pretty high, and felt he was a pretty good player," Regina Pats GM and Head Coach John Paddock said. "When I saw him for these two days [Spring Camp], I thought he was probably the most noticeable player. You usually sign your first two or three picks pretty quick. From what we saw this weekend, it made it easy to move ahead with him."
Almen, 14, was second in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League in goals (55) and third in points (92), while playing in just 31 games last season with the Outlaws. The 2007-born Saskatoon, Sask. product was called up for six games with the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA team last season, scoring two goals and one assist. The 5-foot-10, 167 lb. forward has committed to play for the U18 AAA Blazers for the 2022-2023 season.
"It appears he has that ability to keep moving ahead," Paddock added. "It [his stats] translates different at each level as you get higher. I think he has a chance to be a good player past junior hockey from what we saw. It's going to be interesting to see what he does in U18 hockey this year, as they're [the Blazers] going to have a real good team. He will be challenging for a spot next year and whenever he makes the Pats, the last couple years [of his junior career], he will be expected to be one of the leading scorers."
The Regina Pats are excited to welcome Corban and his family to the organization and the community of Regina.
