Pats Look to Snap Skid Sunday on Home Ice

Regina, Sask. - Today the Regina Pats wrap up their third game in five days (2-2-0) when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings (1-3-0) at 4:00 p.m., inside the Brandt Centre.

The Pats have lost their last two games coming into Sunday's action, falling 5-2 to Winnipeg on Wednesday and 3-2 on Friday night in Moose Jaw. Regina and Moose Jaw completed their first of 10 meetings on Friday night, with the Warriors coming away with the win thanks to a Matthew Gallant go-ahead goal late in the second period. The Pats tied it twice in the hockey game, with Logan Nijhoff and Ryker Evans both getting their first goals of the season. Final shots were 35-26 for Moose Jaw, with the Pats going 2-for-4 on the power play and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill.

The Pats last win came on home ice on October 2 against Prince Albert.

On the other side, the Brandon Wheat Kings play the final game of their three-in-three weekend. The Wheat Kings captured their first win of the season on Friday with a 5-2 victory over Prince Albert, but are coming off a 6-2 loss at home to the Saskatoon Blades last night. The Wheat Kings recently named Ottawa Senators first rounder Ridly Greig the 66th captain in franchise history. The fourth-year Wheat King' has three goals in two games and is coming of a 2020-21 season which saw the 2002-born forward score 10 goals and register 32 points in 21 games with Brandon, while also dressing in seven games with the AHL's Belleville Senators, recording a goal and two helpers.

The Wheat Kings are coming off a 18-4-2-0 season, which saw the club finish first in the Hub Centre.

Last season, the Regina Pats went 1-2-1-0 against the Wheat Kings, going to overtime in two of those four contests. The Pats won 2-1 in overtime, while losing 3-2 in overtime, 7-2 and 5-2. Brandon and Regina have faced off 458 times all-time coming into today's play. The Pats are 7-7-1-2 against the Wheat Kings since the 2018-19 season, with 10 of those 17 games being decided by one goal.

HEADLINES

Defenceman Ryker Evans has recorded at least a point in all four games this season, with a goal and five assists during that time. His six points are tied for second in the WHL amongst defencemen

Forward Cole Dubinsky (4A) is riding a three game point-streak. He recorded his 50th career point on Wednesday with an assist.

The Pats own the WHL's fourth-best power play, running at 31.6%. They are 6-for-14 on the man advantage over their last three games (42.8%).

Regina has been shorthanded more often than any other team in the league thus far, at 23 times through four games (5.75 times/game).

Brandon Wheat Kings alumni (1980-82) and Regina Pats assistant coach Ken Schneider makes his coaching debut against Brandon for the first time in his career. The Colfax, SK, native captained the Wheat Kings in the 1981-82 season.

The Pats have a goal differential of +1 this season (12GF-11GA).
