Pats Kick off U.S. Division Road Trip in Portland

The Regina Pats (12-8-2-0) kick off their U.S. Division road trip on Saturday night in Portland against the Winterhawks (14-4-0-0). Puck drop is at 8:00 p.m. Regina time at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Pats are coming off a 4-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen at the Brandt Centre on Wednesday, while the Winterhawks won their fifth straight game on Sunday, 6-1 over the Prince Albert Raiders. Tonight is the first and only meeting between the two clubs in 2017-18. The game can be heard starting at 7:35 with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up: Pats down Hitmen Wednesday
Sam Steel and Nick Henry each had a goal and an assist to lead the Pats to a 4-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre. Emil Oksanen got the scoring started with a powerplay goal early in the first, his 11th of the year. Calgary tied it up five minutes later with a powerplay goal of their own, but Sam Steel would respond for Regina with his sixth of the season and it was 2-1 after 20 minutes. In the second, Matt Bradley gave the Pats a 3-1 lead when he snapped his 16th into the top of the net. However, 33 second later, Tristen Nielsen tipped home a point shot to bring Calgary to within a goal heading to the third period. In the final frame, Nick Henry would swat his first of the year out of midair, just 15 seconds in, and again the Pats had a two goal lead. The Hitmen powerplay got them back to within a goal at 10:42, but Regina would hold on from there for the 4-3 victory. The Pats outshot the Hitmen 40-28, the powerplay was one for four and the penalty kill two for four.
Head to Head
The Winterhawks beat Regina in their lone meeting in the 2016-17 season, 5-4 in overtime. Adam Brooks, Filip Ahl, Sam Steel and Connor Hobbs each had two points in the defeat. Portland was led by Lane Gillis, Caleb Jones, Carter Czaikowski and Ryan Hughes who also had two point nights. Jones scored the game winner in OT. Regina is looking to snap a four game losing streak against the Winterhawks, going 0-3-1-0 over that stretch. The last win for the Pats came on October 9, 2012 by a 3-2 score in overtime in Regina, Trent Ouellette had a goal and an assist in that game for Regina. The Pats enter Saturday, eight points back of Moose Jaw for first in the East Division. The Winterhawks lead the U.S. Division, tied in points with the Tri-City Americans with 28.
Zamula and Oksanen get Central Scouting Recognition
Pats defenceman Egor Zamula and forward Emil Oksanen were among the 38 WHL players listed on the NHL Central Scouting Service Players to Watch List for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Zamula, from Chelyabinsk Russia, came in as a 'B' skater as a potential second or third round pick. The 17-year-old was ranked a 'C' skater in the October rankings and has two assists and is a plus four in 20 games this season. Oksanen came in as a 'C' skater as a potential fourth to sixth round selection. The 19-year-old from Kirkkonummi, Finland has scored 11 goals and has 24 points in 21 games this year, that is good for second in team scoring.
