WARRIORS' HALBGEWACHS NAMED WHL ON THE RUN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
November 21, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 19, 2017.
Hart, who is a second-round selection, 48th overall, of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2016, picked up a pair of wins as the Silvertips continued to make up ground in the standings, moving into a three-way tie for the Western Conference wild card spots.
Wednesday at home, Hart stopped all 25 shots he faced in a 2-0 shutout of the Prince Albert Raiders. Hart stopped 13 shots in the first, eight in the second and four in the third for his 21st career WHL shutout, which tied a Silvertips' franchise record.
Hart stood tall Friday at home against the Seattle Thunderbirds, stopping 31 of 33 shots in a 3-2 victory for the Silvertips. With the game tied heading to the third period, Hart stopped 11 of the Thunderbirds' 12 shots in the period, helping to preserve the victory.
Sunday, Hart took a 2-1 loss against the Regina Pats, but delivered another incredible performance, making 48 saves on 50 shots. Hart stopped 15 shots each in the first and second period, followed by 18 in the final 20 minutes. The 48 saves were a career-high figure for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound goaltender from Sherwood Park, Alta.
Since his return from injury in November, Hart has been at top form, accumulating a record of 5-3-0-1 with a 1.84 goals against average and .944 SV% along with two shutouts. Those figures have Hart ranked first in both goals against average and SV% throughout the league while he sits second in the WHL in shutouts.
This past week saw Hart collect his 90th career WHL victory. In 158 WHL regular season games, Hart has a 90-43-9-10 record as well as a 2.12 goals against average and .922 SV%. Hart was originally drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158th overall, by the Silvertips in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
Hart and the Silvertips, who are 6-3-0-1 in their last 10, are on the road Wednesday, November 22 (7:05 p.m. PST) against the Tri-City Americans.
