
Pats Fall Short to Begin U.S. Road Trip

Spokane, Wash. - The Regina Pats lost the first game of their six game U.S. road trip on Friday, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Spokane Chiefs at the Spokane Arena.
The Pats got off to a 2-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game, with Tye Spencer and Braxton Whitehead scoring Regina's goals. The Chiefs made it a one goal game after one before tying the contest at 2-2 in the second. In the third, Conner Roulette scored the go-ahead goal to make it 3-2 as part of a three goal third period and five unanswered goals by the Chiefs.
Whitehead finished the game with a pair of points (1G-1A), while Spencer's marker was his team leading 10th power play goal of the season. Tanner Howe also chipped in with two helpers and Ewan Huet made 31 saves in the loss.
Roulette led the way for the Chiefs with two points (1G-1A) and the game winner. Berkly Catton also had two points (1G-1A) and Saige Weinstein added two assists. Ben Bonni, Ty Cheveldayoff and Hayden Paupanekis rounded out the scoring for the Chiefs and Dawson Cowen made 19 saves in their second straight win.

First Period
1-0 Pats at 4:16 - Tye Spencer (21), assisted by Braxton Whitehead & Tanner Howe (PP) // A shot is blocked by bodies in front of the Chiefs' net and the puck ended up on Spencer's stick and he fired a shot past Cowan to give the Pats a 1-0 lead.
2-0 Pats at 9:36 - Braxton Whitehead (13), assisted by Zackary Shantz & Tanner Howe // Howe circled the Chiefs net and found Whitehead in front of Cowan where he put a backhander past the netminder to extend the Pats' lead to 2-0.
2-1 Chiefs at 10:59 - Hayden Paipanekis (9), assisted by Lukáš Král & Saige Weinstein // The puck got lost in a Pats defender's skates and it ended up on the tee for Paupanekis who ripped a slapshot from the right circle past Huet to pull the Chiefs to within one at 2-1.
Second Period
2-2 Chiefs at 10:36 - Ty Cheveldayoff (9), assisted by Conner Roulette & Berkly Catton (PP) // The Chiefs entered the Pats zone with speed and Cheveladyoff fired a slapshot past Huet from the edge of the left circle to tie the game up at 2-2
Third Period
3-2 Chiefs at 3:58 - Conner Roulette (36), assisted by Chase Bertholet & Brayden Crampton (PP) // Roulette was able to skate in along the outside of the left circle and let a shot go that eluded Huet to give the Chiefs their first lead of the game at 3-2.
4-2 Chiefs at 17:44 - Ben Bonni (6), assisted by Shea Van Olm & Nathan Mayes // Bonni took the puck behind the Pats net and wrapped it around to make it 4-2.
5-2 Chiefs at 18:51 - Berkly Catton (42), unassisted // Catton's long shot hit the Pats' empty net to make it 5-2.
