Pats Acquire Brown from Red Deer for a Pair of Draft Picks
October 11, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats Hockey Club has acquired 2002-born defenceman Tanner Brown from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick, and a 2024 fourth-round pick.
"He's a veteran defenceman, which is key with our relatively young group," Regina Pats General Manager and Head Coach John Paddock said. "He's got playoff experience with Vancouver and Winnipeg so that bodes well. He's got off to a good start this season, but Red Deer ended up with a lot of 20s. I think he's a top four defenceman on a lot of teams in the league and he's going to be one of the better defencemen on our hockey team."
Brown, 19, recorded six assists in five games with the Rebels this season, while also being a +6 which led the Rebels. The Kelowna, B.C. product split last season between the Winnipeg ICE and Vancouver Giants, scoring 26 points (7G-19A) in 67 games. The 5-foot-11, 180 lb. defenceman was traded to the ICE at the trade deadline for a 2022 first-round pick and was later dealt by Winnipeg to Red Deer, along with a seventh-round pick this offseason for forward Josh Medernach and a third-round pick.
The former 2017 second-round pick by Vancouver (24th overall) has played in 165 games (10G-37A-47PTS) across parts of six seasons in the WHL.
