Patriots Set First Round Playoff Date

March 12, 2003 - NBA G League (G League)
Fayetteville Patriots News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., March 12, 2003 – The Fayetteville Patriots knew two weeks ago they would start the 2003 National Basketball Development League Playoffs at home. They just didn't know when. They do now.

The Patriots open the playoffs at 7:30 p.m., March 25 at the Crown Coliseum. The Patriots' opponent has not been determined. The Patriots are regular-season NBDL champions and the only team to have clinched a playoff spot thus far.

"It's nice to have a date set,'' Patriots coach Jeff Capel said. "It's good to know we'll have some time between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs to prepare. But right now I want this team focused on finishing out our remaining regular-season games on a positive note. There is still a lot of improvement we need to make. If we don't make those improvements now, it's going to be too late once the playoffs start."

Before the Patriots play their first playoff game in team history, they still have four regular-season games remaining, including their home finale against the Greenville Groove on March 21. The team's regular-season finale is at Columbus on March 22. The first 2,000 fans through the door on March 21 will get a youth Fayetteville Patriots replica jersey. It is also group appreciation night.

In honor of the many groups who attended Patriots games this season, the Patriots are offering 2-for-$10 Night. Group tickets purchased for $10 per person will earn fans admission into the Patriots regular-season home finale and the playoff game on March 25. Group leaders earn free admission on March 21 if they bring a group.

"As the season ends and the playoffs begin we want to show fans our appreciation for helping us have such a successful year,'' team president Todd DeMoss said.

"We are excited about the possibility of bringing a championship home to Fayetteville. "This city deserves a championship team. We want to make sure everyone come and join in on the excitement of going after a championship title."
