Charleston Lowgators News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 28) Alpha Bangura missed a would-be game-tying tip-in with .8 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter as the Fayetteville Patriots knocked off the Charleston Lowgators 105-103 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday night. The loss snapped an eight-game home-winning streak for Charleston.
After trailing 62-52 at halftime, Fayetteville (15-17) outscored the Lowgators (20-12) 31-14 in the third quarter to take an 83-76 lead going into the final period. Down by as many as 10 in the final frame, the Lowgators battled back and took a 101-100 advantage with 2:14 remaining. However, Jason Capel hit a clutch three-pointer and Charleston did not score after the 1:45 mark to give the Patriots their second win in as many nights against the Lowgators.
We were very fortunate to beat a good team tonight. It was a team effort and we executed down the stretch, Fayetteville coach Jeff Capel said.
The seesaw battle saw 11 lead changes and 9 ties. The season series is now tied with each team winning four games.
Charleston coach Doug Marty said, That third quarter really hurt us. We will learn from it and improve. I like the fact that we did not get down on ourselves in the fourth quarter and we came back.
Kenny Satterfield led seven Patriots in double-digits with 22 points. Britton Johnson added 17 off the bench and Jason Collier chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Ime Udoka paced the Lowgators with 26 points and Tierre Brown contributed 23.
Charleston will travel to Asheville on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. Fayetteville will take on Huntsville in Alabama on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
