Patriots Bounce Back With 7-1 Win Over Surf

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Atlantic City Surf 7-1 in front of 4,479 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark in the second game of a double-header on Tuesday night.

The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Second baseman Emiliano Escandon reached on a walk and came around to score on an RBI double by right fielder Ryan Radmanovich. Center fielder Chris Wakeland followed with an RBI single and then scored on a single by first baseman Manny Santana.

The Surf put up a run in the top of the third inning. Second Baseman Demetrius Heath singled and then advanced on an error. Shortstop Orlando Miller followed with an RBI single to make the score 3-1 Patriots.

The Patriots added four runs in the fourth inning. Third baseman Jeff Nettles singled and advanced to third on an error that allowed designated hitter Jhonny Perez to reach base safely. Left Fielder Norm Hutchins drove home Nettles and Perez with a single and Escandon drew a walk to load the bases. Shortstop Victor Rodriguez doubled home two more runs to give the Patriots a 7-1 lead.

Patriots starter Mike Spiegel (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits and struck out three in five innings pitched. Surf starter Rob Corrado (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 3.2 innings pitched.

The 2004 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm against the Atlantic City Surf. Wednesday's game includes Somerset Medical Center Health Fair Night.
