Patriotic Jerseys Score Big in Generals Win

Victoria, TX - It was a great night for the Victoria Generals but an even better night for Warrior's Weekend. After the Generals took care of business beating the Pump Jacks 8-4, player jerseys were auctioned off generating over $16,000 for Warrior's Weekend.

Donivan Lopez's bat stayed hot Saturday night as he went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Braxton Smith threw 5 solid innings for the Generals who beat the East Texas Pump Jacks and moving their second half record to 5-2..

Romeo Cortina was brought home in the bottom of the second on an RBI ground-out from Pedro Barrios to score the first run of the ball game. Donivan Lopez added two more runs with a single into left field that scored Bryce Brandl and Ryan McCranie.

Lopez drove in another run for the Generals in the fourth, plating Barrios on a single making the score 4-0 in favor of the Generals.

The Pump Jacks scored their first run of the night in the fifth inning. Dilon Argo scored on a sacrifice fly from Jake Nash. Tristan Clarke singled into center field later in the inning to score Dylan Mecham moving the score to 4-2.

Adam Goss hit a triple down the right field line to bring home Darien Simms in the fifth. Goss came around to score on that very same play on an error by the Pump Jacks first baseman.

Smith pitched a strong five innings of baseball for the Generals before being replaced on the mound by Lee May Gonzalez. Smith allowed just two runs on five hits and a strike out.

Frank Miller's night came to an end in the bottom of the sixth when Tristen Pendley took over the mound for the Pump Jacks. Miller pitched 5 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and a lone strike out.

The Generals scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Goss scored on an error from the Pump Jacks relief pitcher and Cortina scored on a single from Christian Caudle.

The Pump Jacks had a small rally in the ninth. Hunter Owens scored on an RBI ground out from Nash and Argo scored on a wild pitch from Gonzalez.

Smith earned the win for the Generals, Gonzalez got the save and Miller took home the loss for the Pump Jacks.

The Generals will complete the two games series against the East Texas Pump Jacks tomorrow night at Riverside Stadium. Tomorrow night is Speedy Stop night at the ballpark, with fans being able to redeem their tickets for a free breakfast/lunch taco with a fountain drink purchase at Speedy Stop locations if the Generals win.
