Patrick Johnson Named 2014 American Association All-Star and Leagues Pitcher of the Week

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers RHP Patrick Johnson has been named this week's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 13th.

Johnson started a pair of games for the Explorers last week, and went 1-0 with the team winning both. On Tuesday, Johnson toed the rubber at Winnipeg and allowed only four hits over seven innings of work. He struck out eleven Goldeyes and received a no-decision, with Sioux City winning 2-1. Johnson's second start of the week was on Sunday at home against Fargo-Moorhead. In eight innings, Johnson recorded seven more strikeouts and allowed only one earned run as he picked up his fifth win of the season. The Explorers would go on to win the game by a final score of 9-6.

On the year, Johnson is 5-2 with a 2.64 ERA in 14 games, ten of which have been starts. The Conover, North Carolina resident has 66 strikeouts in 68 innings. The Explorers right-hander has also been chosen to represent Sioux City in the upcoming American Association All-Star Game. The game will be played at Shaw Park in Winnipeg on July 29th. Johnson is in his first season of independent baseball after three seasons with the Colorado Rockies organization. He played collegiately at the University of North Carolina and appeared in the 2011 College World Series in Omaha.
