Asheville Tourists News Release
HICKORY - The Asheville Tourists put together an impressive 4-1 victory over the Hickory Crawdads on Monday night. The win ensured a series split, a winning road trip, and sole possession of second place in the South Atlantic League Southern division entering Tuesday's off day.
Asheville was led by their starting pitcher Frederis Parra. The right-hander took a shutout into the eighth inning before allowing the Crawdads' lone run on a solo Home Run. Alexander Martinez came in and finished out the bottom of the eighth and PJ Poulin notched his sixth save of the season and second of the series with a scoreless ninth inning.
Offensively, Asheville struck for all four of their runs in the top of the seventh. With Niko Decolati at third and Terrin Vavra at first, Coco Montes hit an RBI double up the third base line to open the scoring. Grant Lavgine followed with a two-run double off the right field wall to give Asheville a 3-0 lead. Kyle Datres finished off the rally with an RBI single into center that plated Lavigne and gave the Tourists a 4-0 advantage.
Parra pitched in the first and in the last games of the road trip. The right-hander tossed a total of 14.2 innings and surrendered only three runs total. Parra earned his first win of the season with tonight's performance.
Asheville finished their road trip with two wins in Greensboro and a pair of wins in Hickory; two of the top teams in the Northern division. Following the off day on Tuesday, the Tourists will play 14 of their next 18 games at home.
