Augusta GreenJackets News Release

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY: The Augusta GreenJackets (58-48, 22-16) are rolling and it was Seth Corry who was brilliant yet again on Monday night. The GreenJackets beat the Lexington Legends (53-53, 16-21) by a final of 9-1. Augusta has now won four consecutive series, and they will keep their two-game lead over the Asheville Tourists in the 2nd half standings.

The GreenJackets finish the road trip with a 5-2 mark, and they are 10-games above the .500 mark for the first time in 2019. Corry ends his night after 5.2 innings and he did not allow a hit, or a run, while finishing with a career high 10 strikeouts. Ryan Walker took over and went 1.1 innings of no-hit baseball before Brhet Bewley singled to end the no-hit bid in the 8th.

The Augusta offense struggled against Lexington starter C.J. Eldred in the first three innings. In the 4th, Jacob Gonzalez hit his 7th home run of the season, a two-run shot, and they took a 2-0 advantage. In the 5th inning, the GreenJackets gave their starting pitcher Corry some run support. Ismael Munguia drove in two runs with a single, followed by an RBI for Simon Whiteman, and the Jackets lead was 5-0. Then, Frankie Tostado sent a baseball to the moon, his 14th home run of the season, and the Jackets grabbed a 7-0 lead.

Corry came back out in the 6th inning, and recorded the first two outs, but with his pitch count at 90, the Jackets went with Ryan Walker out of the bullpen. Walker got the final out of the 6th to keep the no-hitter intact. Augusta's offense came roaring back in the 7th with two more runs. An RBI single for Diego Rincones, along with a sacrifice fly for Tostado, and the Jackets led 9-0.

Tostado ends his night going 2-4, with a run-scored, and three RBI's. The first five men of the GreenJackets lineup, (Munguia, Whiteman, Rincones, Tostado, Gonzalez) finish 10-22 at the plate with nine RBI's.

Walker pitched a scoreless 7th for the Jackets, but in the 8th inning, Rubendy Jaquez reached base on an error from 2nd baseman Shane Matheny. He then moved to 2nd base on a wild pitch. Brhet Bewley ended the no-hitter with a single to left field, scoring Jaquez, to make the score 9-1. It was an unearned run for Walker as he went 2.1 innings.

Peter Lannoo pitched a scoreless 9th inning, and the Jackets collected a 9-1 win.

Player of the Game: Seth Corry, 5.2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 10 K

Seth Corry hasn't allowed a run in his last three starts (16.2 innings), and he collected his 7th consecutive win on Monday night. The southpaw is 7-0 with a 0.84 ERA since the All-Star break, and he has 56 strikeouts to only 11 walks in the 2nd half. His 10 strikeouts on Monday were a career high.

Wednesday's Game: 7:05 PM vs Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies), SRP Park, North Augusta, South Carolina

Pitching Matchup: (LAK) RHP Francisco Morales (1-5, 4.08 ERA) vs (AUG) RHP Trenton Toplikar (2-1, 3.45 ERA)

The series opener with Lakewood will begin with the GreenJackets Trenton Toplikar on the mound. Toplikar was impressive in his last two outings. Between his last two starts, Toplikar has gone 11.2 innings on the mound and allowed just two runs. Wednesday will be the 4th start of his GreenJackets career after he started 2019 with Class-A Advanced San Jose. While there, Toplikar posted a 3.98 ERA in 15 appearances. He made eight starts with San Jose in 2019. Toplikar was a 16th round pick by the San Francisco Giants in the 2018 MLB Draft. He played his college baseball at UC Riverside.

Francisco Morales will take the hill for Lakewood on Wednesday. He has pitched in 20 games this season and has made 11 starts on the mound. Morales has only gone five-innings three times so far in 2019, as he has shifted between a starting and bullpen role. In his last start back on July 19th at Kannapolis, Morales went three innings while allowing only two runs. Lakewood has been very cautious with the 19-year old, as he has never thrown more than 75 pitches in an outing this year. Morales is listed as the Phillies #7 overall prospect according to MLB.com. He was signed from San Juan de los Morros, Venezuela as an International Free Agent in 2016.
