South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - Davis Parley posted his second shut out of the playoffs, and the South Carolina Stingrays once again won a game five, as they beat the Columbia Inferno 2-0 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

"We came out strong tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I don't really care who we play in the next round, I'm just glad we'll be playing."

The Stingrays drew first blood in the first period when Stephen Werner got his fifth goal of the playoffs on a power play from Matt Smith and Patrick McNeill. The goal came at 2:40 and was the eventual game winner. That gave the Rays a 1-0 lead, a lead they would take into the first intermission.

In the second period, the Stingrays would stretch their lead to 2-0 when Travis Morin got his ECHL leading 10th goal of the playoffs from Cail MacLean and Chris Chaput. The goal was Morin's fourth of the series.

The third period was tightly contested especially at the end when, after pulling their goalie, the Inferno got a power play. Even skating six on four, the Rays kept them at bay for a 2-0 final.

The winning goaltender was Davis Parley who stopped all 23 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Todd Ford who stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced. The Rays went 1-4 on the power play while killing off all six short handed situations they faced.

The Rays will now play the Cincinnati Cyclones, the regular season champs, in the Conference Finals starting on Friday in Cincinnati. Game time will be at 7:30 P.M.
