Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders kicker Rene Paredes has been honoured by the Canadian Football League as the special teams player of the week for Week 3.
Paredes accounted for 16 of Calgary's points in the Red and White's 22-14 victory over the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday. The third-year kicker from Concordia was perfect on five field-goal attempts including a pair of 39-yarders. Paredes also connected from 22, 20 and 18 yards and added one point-after-touchdown conversion.
Through the first three weeks of the 2013 season, Paredes leads the CFL in field goals (seven), field-goal accuracy (100 per cent) and points (30).
It's the second time in his career Paredes has received a weekly CFL honour - he was special teams player of the week in Week 2 of the 2011 campaign for his performance, which included a 50-yard field goal, in his CFL debut. He was also the league's player of the month for October-November of 2012.
Paredes is the third Stampeders player to be recognized by the CFL this season. Jon Cornish (top Canadian) and Charleston Hughes (top defensive player) were honoured for their play in a Week 1 victory over the BC Lions.
