Palm Beach Blanks Bradenton

May 7, 2015 - Florida State League (FSL) - Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (16 - 12) defeated the Bradenton Marauders, 1 - 0, after dominating them on the mound. Bradenton outhit Palm Beach by one, but was unable to produce a run, going 0 - 6 with runners in scoring position. Starting pitcher for the Cardinals, Corey Littrell, earned his first win of the season. Kyle Barraclough earned a save in back-to- back nights, improving his total to four.

After struggling in his first few starts, Littrell pitched with command, leading Palm Beach to their third straight victory. Littrell threw eight solid innings, allowing five hits and struck out seven. In his first four starts combined, he struck out six. Tonight was Littrell's longest outing, topping his previous record by 2.0 innings. He pitched six complete on April 12 against the Jupiter Hammerheads, and against the Charlotte Stone Crabs on April 18.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the third with one out. Juan Herrera started the momentum for the Cardinals with a single to right field. C.J. McElroy reached on a force attempt, with the second baseman overthrowing the shortstop to get Herrera. He and McElroy advanced on the error, putting them in scoring position for Mason Katz. On the first pitch he saw, Katz sent the ball to deep right field, giving Herrera enough time to tag and score the eventual winning run.

At the plate for Bradenton, Littrell gave up two, one out triples in back-to-back innings, but had enough help behind him to get out of the jams. The Marauders couldn't cash in every time they reached base, leaving six on, all in scoring position.

Starting pitcher for the Marauders, Clayton Richard, gave the Cardinals a test, only allowing four hits and one walk. He never allowed more than one hit an inning, but did issue the walk in the fourth, an inning he gave up one of his hits.

For game two of the series, reigning Florida State League pitcher of the week, Will Anderson (1-0), will get the start for Palm Beach. He'll face right hander, Frank Duncan (1-1). First pitch between the Cardinals and Marauders is slated for 6:35 p.m. on Friday, May 8. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit
